Low enrolment: 113 govt primary schools shut down

Panaji: Five government primary schools with low enrolment have been amalgamated into neighbourhood government elementary schools during the current academic year. In addition to this, from 2013-14 till 2016-17, as many as 113 government primary schools have shut for want of students, according to official documents. The highest number of schools in the last four years have shut down in Ponda taluka at 26, followed by Salcete (19), Quepem (15) and Tiswadi (12).
