Fiordland residents defiant over council wastewater plans

At an emotionally charged meeting, the Southland District Council was told in no uncertain terms it could not go for a pivot irrigation scheme to spread wastewater near an airport in Fiordland. Eight speakers made the trip to Invercargill to speak before the council on Wednesday, while another six addressed the council via video-link from Te Anau (with one other submission taking place over the phone from Christchurch). All 15 speakers spoke disapprovingly of the council`s recommended centre pivot irrigation wastewater plan.
