Fans´ hopes high, BMO Field lively as Toronto FC hosts Seattle for MLS Cup final
(The Star Food)

A sea of red flooded into the GO train at Clarkson station, full of Toronto FC fans heading to the MLS Cup championship game against the Seattle Sounders. The train buzzed with discussion of key players, formations, and mistakes made on the way to the final. The matchup is a rematch of last year’s final, where Toronto lost on penalties against a gritty Sounders team. This year, fans are hoping for redemption. Before the game, hope was in the air. The scene around BMO Field was lively, with red hats, red scarves, red jackets and red jerseys cheering and chanting before huddling into their favoured bars before the game.Sounders fans chatted amongst themselves, before breaking out into their own chants, drowning out the ticket scalpers.“Come on Seattle!” They cheered.Speaking near Exhibition station, Toronto FC fan Eddie Sanchez said he has been following the team since its inception in 2007.“Back when we had Danny Dichio, when he scored the first goal ... I’ve been supporting them ever since.”He thinks the Reds will take the game with a 3-1 win.John Jones and Sandra Holmes travelled to Toronto to cheer for the Sounders.“I had to fly down to Dallas to come up, and (Sandra) came here via Newark,” said Jones. “We should have driven to Vancouver.”Their daughter was 2 months old when the Sounders joined the MLS in 2009, and the family have been devoted supporters since. The couple are friendly with the Sounders squad, and their kids practice near their facilities. This season, Toronto FC broke the record for regular season points. They are led by Sebastian Giovinco, their star Italian forward who won the MLS MVP in 2015. Until his arrival that year, the Reds had never made the playoffs in its eight years of existence. Now, two out of three playoff runs have landed them in the finals.Read more: MLS Cup the final missing piece for Toronto FC following record-setting seasonThree keys to victory for Toronto FC in ML ...
