Huawei was one of the first mobile manufacturers to tap into the potential of dual-camera designs, and if rumors are true, Huawei might soon also be one of the first-or the first-manufacturer to move into triple lens territory as well. All of the Chinese manufacturer`s current models come with a setup that combines the image data from a 12MP RGB sensor and a 20MP monochrome chip for improved dynamic range, noise levels and zoom performance, as well as generating a natural looking bokeh effect. But Huawei`s next P-series model, which will most likely be called P11, is rumored to feature not two, but three cameras on the rear. This setup, according to some information originally uncovered by reliable leaker Evan Blass, would enable 40MP images and a high-quality 5x zoom. Is the next Huawei P-series going to be an imaging powerhouse? A digital artist at one of the company`s creative agencies added these `PCE Series` ads to their portfolio -- claiming 40MP, 3 lens rear (5x hybrid zoom) + 24MP selfie, all Leica-co-developed. pic.twitter.com/t8w3VlL55L - Evan Blass (@evleaks) December 6, 2017 The camera module is said to capture 100 percent more light than the current variant, and allegedly comes with a `Pro Night Mode` that allows for high-quality night shots without the need for a tripod. As with the brand`s current flagship smartphone, the camera module would again carry a `Leica` label. As you can see from the embedded tweet, this information was allegedly leaked by a digital artist at one of the company`s creative agencies, who included promotional material for the device in their portfolio. As leaks go, this feels like a legitimate `oops,` but as usual, it is impossible to say anything for sure until Huawei releases the P11 into the wild. Nonetheless, computational imaging is still in its infancy, and it`s only a matter of time before engineers will increase the number of sensors and lenses on smartphone cameras to three (or more).
