Irish-Egyptian Detained For 4 Years Finally Released in Egypt

An Irish-Egyptian man that was detained for more than four years by Egypt was released on Friday after he was acquitted on charges related to a 2013 Muslim Brotherhood protest in Cairo, according to The Guardian. Ibrahim Halawa`s lawyer, Darragh Mackin, announced the release on Friday a month after an Egyptian court acquitted him of charges that included murder, arson, and the illegal possession of weapons. Halawa is from Dublin but was tried in a mass trial in Cairo with almost 500 defendants, many of whom received sentences of life in prison.
