Review FAR norms to allow better use of scarce land, Centre tells states

NEW DELHI: The Centre has directed states to review the floor area ratio (FAR) and floor space index (FSI) norms in 53 mega cities for better utilisation of scarce land. Increasing the two parameters will allow more compact residential development in cities. Union housing and urban affairs minister Hardeep Singh Puri made this announcement on Saturday while addressing a conference on New Metro Rail policy. FAR and FSI are the ratio of a building`s total floor area to the size of the piece of land upon which it is built.
