Minnesota DNR releases PolyMet mine dam permits for review

HOYT LAKES, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources on Friday indicated it’s so far satisfied with PolyMet’s plans to build a massive earthen dam to hold back tailings, or mining waste, from the company’s proposed copper mine and processing center near Hoyt Lakes. The DNR released PolyMet’s dam safety permits for public review, two of more than 20 state and federal permits the company needs before opening what would be the state’s first-ever copper-nickel mining operation.
