Light traffic Friday as Oregon readies for weekend eclipse travelers

The expected roar of traffic that Oregonians anticipated as eclipse chasers began traveling ahead of Monday`s celestial event turned out to be little more than a whimper Friday. Much of Oregon braced itself for bumper-to-bumper traffic on major highways connected to eclipse destinations throughout the state. But the headaches never materialized. (In fact, as of 4 p.m., Google Maps indicated drive times from downtown to Tualatin hovered around 20 minutes, a rarity on even the best days in the metro area.)
