Iraq Increases Pressure on Islamic State Near Mosul As Thousands Flee

Thousands of Iraqis were forced to flee an Islamic State-controlled town that`s just outside of Mosul as Iraqi and coalition warplanes increased air strikes ahead of a ground offensive to drive out the IS militants on Tuesday, according to The Associated Press. Tal Afar is just west of the city that was recently liberated from IS and is one of the last main areas held by the group in Iraq after the July victory in Iraq`s second-largest city. The town is also only 150 kilometers (93 miles) east of the Syrian border and is one of the major roads that were essential to IS supplies.
