Professor Peter Carmeliet (57) gets to call himself `baron`. He leads a research group at the Center for Cancer Biology at KU Leuven and VIB, the Flemish life sciences research institute. Together with the brightest scientists and students from all over the world he conducts research into the functioning of blood vessels.
