Offense can`t back Felix in loss to Yankees

Brett Gardner hit a home run in the sixth inning as the Yankees edged the Mariners in the first game of a four-game series behind the pitching of Luis Severino, who tossed seven scoreless innings. Felix Hernandez struck out nine and allowed only three hits in seven innings for Seattle. The Mariners committed two errors late in the game that led to three unearned runs. Robinson Cano knocked in Seattle`s lone run.
