In a flurry of moves Saturday, the A`s optioned shortstop Franklin Barreto to Triple-A Nashville and designated catcher Ryan Lavarnway for assignment to make room to select starting pitcher Chris Smith from Nashville and activate catcher Josh Phegley from paternity leave.
