MONTREAL—The FBI has arrested a Canadian man in connection with a Wednesday morning knife attack in Flint, Mich., that U.S. officials are investigating as a terrorist act. The FBI, which is leading the investigation, has charged Canadian Amor Ftouhi with causing violence at an international airport, FBI special agent David Gelios said at a news conference Wednesday evening. Gelios said Ftouhi yelled “Allahu akbar” as he allegedly stabbed Lt. Jeff Neville, an officer in the Bishop International Airport’s Department of Public Safety, in the neck at about 9:45 a.m.Gelios said that Ftouhi had entered the U.S. at a New York border crossing in mid-June.Local news reports had said that he may have attempted to purchase a gun before buying the knife used in the attack, and that he rented a car to drive from New York City to Flint. La Presse, also citing sources, said the attacker was a Montreal resident and that the RCMP and Montreal Police were leading an operation into the Canadian connection.In a statement, the RCMP said it was aware of the incident.“The investigation is being led by U.S. law enforcement authorities. As such, the RCMP will not provide further information.”Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said he had consulted with the commissioner of the RCMP, Bob Paulson, as well as the national security adviser to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.“Obviously Canada condemns this heinous and cowardly act. The officer and his family are very much in our prayers at this time,” he said. “There is complete co-operation between the RCMP and all of the authorities and agencies in Canada and their counterparts in the United States. We’re doing everything we possibly can to assist in this matter.“The information has been reported in the media that there is a Canadian connection.
