Japan`s Famous Tsukiji Fish Market Won`t Be Destroyed After All

Tokyo`s Governor Yuriko Koike announced the wildly popular tourist attraction of the Tsukiji fish market will not be destroyed but instead closed for five years while it`s modernized and transformed into a `food theme park,` according to The Associated Press. The announcement on Monday described how the market will move to a totally new, state-of-the-art 600 billion yen ($6 billion) facility on the eastern side of Tokyo to a facility in Toyosu while the rebuilding is underway. After the renovations, Tokyo will have two wholesale fish markets, said Gov.
