Woman stuck on crane at Wellesley and Church

A firefighter has now strapped a rescue harness around a woman who has been stranded on top of a construction crane in downtown Toronto since early this morning.Now that the woman is secured, crews plan to position the crane above the Paul Kane House Parkette and then lower her down, Toronto Fire Platoon Chief Kevin Shaw said.Police responded to a call around 4 a.m. that a person was seen on top of the crane on Wellesley St. E., near Church St. The woman climbed on top of the crane using the ladder, and then lowered herself onto the platform using the crane’s cable, said Insp. Colin Greenaway.It was not immediately clear why the woman had gone up on the crane.Wellesley has been shut down between Yonge and Church Sts..
