A recent Investor`s Business Daily commentary (` `Sustainability Standards` Open a Pandora`s box of Politically Correct Accounting,` March 24) warned against the dangers of `infusing corporate accounting with environmental advocacy.` At the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), we couldn`t agree more. That may come as a surprise to its authors, who cited our work as part of a `movement` to `use the Securities and Exchange Commission to add to the regulatory burden` facing publicly listed companies in the U.S. The implication was that our efforts are motivated by a purely social or political agenda that has no place in modern finance.
