Research expenditures of domestic enterprises increased by more than 9% from 2013 to 2015

Press release: 11.497-057/17 Vienna, 2017-03-21 - Expenditures of Austrian enterprises for research and development (R&D) amounted to approximately 6.6 billion Euro in 2015 (2013: 6.01 billion Euro), which results in a rise of more than 9%. As further preliminary results of Statistics Austria indicate, the increase of R&D expenditure is therefore larger than the nominal growth of economic performance, which increased by 5.4% between 2013 and 2015. Consequently, the trend observed for many years that R&D expenditures of businesses increased stronger than economic value added as measured by the gross domestic product (GDP) in the same period was maintained.
